Sennheiser MX 980
$260.00
Released January, 2010
The Pros:Headphones provide enhanced sound-staging capabilities - instrumental stereo spread appears "wider" and more true to the original recording. Included foam ear pads provide excellent comfort and performance - ensures snug, reliable fit for exercising or other fast-paced activities. Included case is of very high quality - fits headphones, ear-pads, cable clip and all additional accessories in a durable clamshell-style case.
The Cons:Not recommended for users with low-quality song libraries - very easy to notice inconsistencies amongst bit-rates lower than 320/lossy audio in general. Unit tends to be larger than most earbud models (e.g. stock Sony, Apple earbuds) - may not fit all users' ears properly, resulting in discomfort and poor sound quality. Tight metal volume slider will likely require two hands to adjust - not conducive to on-the-go or exercise-based applications.

Additionally, the MX 980s are optimized for use with iPods/iPhones/MP3 players.
The MX 980s' dynamic speaker systems utilize powerful neodymium magnets which do not need to sacrifice well-balanced, high-end audio quality in order to fit into a smaller, earbud style headphone unit. The MX 980s' rotatable 3.5mm jack allows the user to switch from straight or angled jack entry quickly and easily. Meanwhile, the MX 980s are specially designed to better reproduce audio from compressed media formats (MP3, AAC, WAV), making them ideal for use with iPods and MP3 players.
