Sony MDR-ED21LP

$20.00 Released June, 2006

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Excellent sound for the price, even though it is very cheap, it still offers plenty of improvements over earbuds that are included with MP3 players. Comfortable fit, improves upon traditional earbud design with a piece that goes into your ear, adds some sound isolation. Cheap, yet durable earbud case construction.

The Cons:Very short warranty, only 90 days, disappointing. Easily tangled cable, too thin and grippy, makes it tough to untangle too. Headphone jack style will not work with older iPhone models.

Marketed towards consumers as an alternative to their stock buds or basic headphones, the Sony MDR-ED21LP is a low priced dynamically driven earbud. At $19.99, the Fontopia branded MDR-ED21LP is driven by a 16mm driver, tweaked to be especially bassy.

Where to Buy

Available at many locations for merely half their MSRP, the MDR-ED21LP are truly a bottom of the barrel option. It is important to know that it is very unlikely that any 10 dollar earbud will sound good. Sony's poor warranty may also be an issue, but at only 20 dollars, such a loss may not be as hard to bear as the $299 MDR-EX700LP.
