Sony MDR-EX85LP
$60.00
Released October, 2001
The Pros:Looks good - features a sleek, minimalist black on silver design. Comfortable - easy to wear for extended periods of time. Doesn't reach deep into the ear canal.
The Cons:Mediocre noise blocking. Poor manufacturer warranty - only 3 months.
Marketed towards consumers and audiophiles alike, the Sony MDR-EX85LP is a medium priced dynamically driven ear bud. At $59.99, the MDR-EX85LP is driven by a 13.5mm driver, not unlike the more expensive MDR-EX90LP.

While not as large as the Sony flagship, the MDR-EX700LP, this driver is still large enough to provide ample bass where single armature based models may struggle. Unlike the MDR-EX90LP however, the MDR-EX85LP does not provide isolation for use on-the-go. Sony's poor warranty may be an issue, but at only 60 dollars, such a loss may not be as hard to bear as the $299 MDR-EX700LP. Available in both black and white.
